Greg Ito's Solo Exhibition 'MOTION PICTURES' at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Experience the surreal and deeply personal artistry of Greg Ito in his latest solo exhibition, MOTION PICTURES, at the Long Beach Museum of Art. Known for his ability to transform everyday experiences into vibrant, dreamlike alternate realities, Ito’s work bridges the personal and the fantastical. His striking compositions, filled with symbolic imagery and off-nature colors, weave introspective narratives that explore themes of identity, optimism, and the complexities of modern life.

Opened October 4, 2024, this milestone exhibition marks Ito’s second institutional survey and reflects the various stages of his life-from adolescence, to becoming a husband, to embracing fatherhood. Through an immersive collection of paintings, sculptures, and his first-ever video installation, MOTION PICTURES offers a multifaceted exploration of personal growth, storytelling, and cultural heritage.

Central to this exhibition are the natural elements of water, fire, air, and earth, which serve as metaphors for life’s transitions. Ito’s works also incorporate sensory elements like light, texture, and nostalgic objects, fostering a unique connection between his own narrative and the audience’s memories. A vibrant storyteller, Ito draws on his Japanese heritage and the influences of his parents and grandparents, weaving familial history into his art to create a compelling dialogue about identity and legacy.

Supported in part by the Pasadena Art Alliance, this exhibition features standout pieces such as Light the Way (2024), an acrylic painting on canvas over a wood panel, demonstrating Ito’s ability to blend poignant symbolism with visual allure.

The Long Beach Museum of Art provides the perfect setting for this powerful showcase, uniting art enthusiasts with Ito’s captivating vision of life’s layered experiences.
