A 10-year-old boy named Hikari, who lost his sight shortly after birth, experiences the world through "sound" and records his world on cassette tapes. There was a possibility that an operation could restore Hikari's sight. After being persuaded by his mother, he decides to undergo the surgery.

At the age of 20, Hikari (played by Gordon Maeda) is strongly guided by the photographs of Shomei Tōmatsu (1930-2012) to Nagasaki. There, he meets a self-proclaimed revolutionary named Tomobe (Hiroyuki Ikeuchi), who invites him to make a documentary film. Hikari ends up tracing the remnants of the war in Nagasaki and Okinawa. During his journey, he encounters a resilient woman with emotional scars, Emi (Awich), and a man who loves Okinawa and his family, Itosu (Shōgen). The painful memories of the war and the lives of these three individuals begin to deeply shake Hikari’s life. Amid the scorching days, what does Hikari see through his eyes?

Then, in 2070, 51 years later, 71-year-old Hikari (Masaya Kato) lives in a world that has changed drastically.
