Come out to the Nichi Bei Book Fest in San Francisco’s Japantown July 27!

The first-ever “Nichi Bei Book Fest” - presented by the Nichi Bei Foundation and Nichi Bei News - will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Koho Co-Creative Hub, 22 Peace Plaza, Suite 540 (above US Bank) in San Francisco’s Japantown.

The event, held in conjunction with the Nichi Bei News' Summer Book Review, celebrates historian Arthur A. Hansen of Southern California, and will launch the Nichi Bei Foundation’s first book, “A Nikkei Harvest: Reviewing the Japanese American Historical Experience and Its Legacy” by Hansen with Wayne Maeda.

Also featured will be fellow Nichi Bei News contributors, who have recently published new books:

• "The Unknown Great" by Nichi Bei News columnist Greg Robinson from Montreal, Canada (with Jonathan van Harmelen from Davis, Calif.)
• "The Literature of Japanese American Incarceration" edited by FrankAbe, Nichi Bei contributor, from Seattle
• "Carceral Entanglements" by Nichi Bei Foundation board member Wendi Yamashita from Sacramento
• "Ruth Asawa: An Artist Takes Shape" by Nichi Bei News comic artist Sam Nakahirafrom Southern California

Hansen, van Harmelen, Abe, Yamashita and Nakahira will be in person to discuss their new books, with Robinson joining by video. These books and more will be for sale by the Nichi Bei Foundation and other book sellers.

A reception will follow the program. Koji Lau-Ozawa, Ph.D. of the Nichi Bei Foundation board of directors will emcee the event, which will feature reviewers of the books in discussion with the authors.
