This January, the Japan America Society of Dallas-Fort Worth is teaming up with Mitsuwa to bring Shogatsu Festivities to the families of North Texas. 正月(-ょうがつ)or Shogatsu, is the first of the year, and is celebrated with family in Japan. We want to bring the culture of New Years from Japan to all of you.

Schedule Activities

“Color-your-own-nengajo-card” table
Nengajo 年賀状 is the traditional New Year’s Greeting Cards one sends to family and friends and more.

Kakizome table
Kakizome かきぞめ)is a traditional New Year’s activity of writing the first calligraphy of the new year.

Mochi Demonstrations at 1PM and 2PM. Come watch traditional mochi pounding and pick some up to try at Mitsuwa!

Osechi Tasting: There will be traditional Osechi to buy at Mitsuwa, and a special educational card explaining the symbolism and significance of every ingredient.
