As the garden comes alive with the soft glow of lanterns and luminaries, immerse yourself in a celebration that pays homage to the ancient Japanese tradition of お月見 (otsukimi). Step into a realm of timeless beauty as you wander through meticulously manicured landscapes, where nature and artistry intertwine in elegant harmony.

Moon Viewing 2024 at Seattle Japanese Garden

Dates & Times:
Day 1: Thursday, September 12, 2024 | 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
• Day 2: Friday, September 13, 2024 | 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
    -Final Entry: 6:15 PM
    -Tea Ceremony (Friday Only): Sessions at 6:40 PM, 7:40 PM, and 8:40 PM

Event Highlights
• Garden Illumination: The garden will be adorned with lanterns and luminaries, creating a serene atmosphere reminiscent of autumn garden illuminations in Japan.

Music & Performances:
• Day 1: Shakuhachi by Araki Kodō VI, Butoh dance by Joan Laage/Kogut Butoh
• Day 2: Shakuhachi by Patrick Johnson, Butoh dance by Joan Laage/Kogut Butoh
After Sunset: Traditional Japanese music reimagined by Paul Kikuchi, installed by Robb Kunz.

Additional Activities
• Haiku station for creative writing
• Telescope viewing of the moon by the Seattle Astronomical Society (weather permitting)

Special Notes
• Tea Ceremony (Friday Only): Experience the elegance of a traditional tea ceremony in the Shoseian tea house with limited-time sessions.
