Celebrate the traditional Japanese holiday of Girls’ Day or Hinamatsuri (Japanese doll festival) at Japan House!
Japan House will be beautifully embellished with handcrafted decorations, as well as a display of traditional Hinamatsuri dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, attendants, and musicians in the traditional court dress of the Heian era (794-1185).

Guests will be treated to a traditional Japanese tea ceremony and wagashi (Japanese sweet), followed by a presentation and hands-on crafting session of Origami (paper folding) led by Japan House Interns, Ikebana (flower arranging) led by the Illinois Prairie Chapter of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society of America, and Kanzashi (decorative hair ornaments) led by visiting artist Ariel Loh.
Two tea times are available. The first at 1:00 pm is for girls 12 and under, accompanied by an adult. The second is at 3:00 pm for girls and women 13 and older.
