Japanese American History will be celebrated with the Seabrook Buddhist Temple’s Annual Obon Festival Event.  Traditional Japanese folk dancing and taiko drumming will be featured during the Seabrook Buddhist Temple’s Annual Obon Festival in New Jersey will be held on Saturday in July.

We are pleased to announce that Takumi Kato and his family will be performing at the Seabrook Obon Festival. Takumi Kato is a world champion Taiko drummer from Japan and he preforms with his 3 children. His dream is to perform 1000 shows in all 50 states within 4 years, starting in October, 2022 to spread peace and harmony. We are excited to have him preform at the Seabrook Buddhist Temple and to help him achieve his goal.

Each year, since 1945, the Seabrook Buddhist Temple has celebrated Obon. Temple members are proud to honor their heritage and share their history. The Obon Odori (dance) is a “Dance of Joy”, honoring all those who have passed before us and the sacrifices they have made to make our lives better. Seabrook Buddhist Temple is located at 9 Northville Road off of State Highway #77 in Seabrook, New Jersey. Folding or lawn chairs are recommended for your comfort.

Getting to Seabrook
By Car: It takes about 2.5 hours from NYC to drive straight to Seabrook with no traffic. However, a traditional stop by Sorbello Girls Farm Market in Mullica Hills for fresh Jersey produce is highly recommended!  And do come early to see the extraordinary museum at the Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center documenting the Japanese Americans and other ethnic groups at Seabrook, located very near the Obon Festival.

By Public transportation: If coming from New York City take a bus or train to Philadelphia then get on the #410 New Jersey Transit bus from Philly - it drops you right at Northville Rd where the Seabrook Buddhist Temple’s Obon Festival is located. The SECC Museum situated at the Municipal Township building is 1 minute further on the bus route.
