Everyone Welcome. Family friendly * Free Admission * Free Parking

Bon Odori Japanese Folk Dancing
Everyone is invited to join in the dance circle! No special attire or experience is required, just a happy heart and happy feet! The dances consist of simple, repetitive movements that tell stories about coalminers, fishermen, farmers, country life, and more, all accompanied by the rhythmic beat of a taiko drum.

About Vista Obon Festival
Obon is a special occasion in Japan and for Shin Buddhists. It is a time to remember those who have gone before us and to reflect on how their lives made our own possible with deep gratitude. Vista Buddhist Temple is looking forward to hosting an Obon Gathering this year, and invite you to join us. Below is what will be offered during the gathering and free onsite parking will be available. 

Bon Odori Dancing
Join the dance circle and experience traditional Japanese folk dancing. All are welcome to dance in memory of those who have passed on.

Food Items Include
Beef Teriyaki, Yakisoba, Udon, Tofu & Vegetable Curry Rice, Chili & Rice, Chirashi Rice, Inari Sushi, Spam Musubi, Somen Salad, Manju, Taikoyaki.  

Taiko Drumming
Come listen to the Shokenji Taiko drum group perform some of their greatest hits!

Obon Memorial
Honor and express gratitude to those who have passed. Memorials will be listed during the gathering and in the Vista View August newsletter.

Marketplace
Stop by the Marketplace where a variety of handmaid crafts, small goods, and plants will be available for purchase during the gathering.

Dharma Talk
Vista's Ministers Assistants will be sharing a Buddhist dharma message on Obon and gratitude.

Free Parking
Free parking also available next door at the Scripps Coastal Medical Center.

: Japanese food until 6 pm or sold out; taiko drumming; furoshiki (Japanese wrapping cloth) demonstration; judo; beaded flower and sumi-e display & crafts; koto performance; talks on Buddhism; introduction to bon odori practice; silent auction.

Games for the kids, crafts booths, cut flowers & plants for sale, fresh produce.
