Come join Christine Inouye and Minyo Station as they present an evening of Japanese classic folk dance and music on Friday evening 6:30PM to 8:00PM at The East LA Civic Center, 4801 E. Third Street Los Angeles, CA 90022.ï¿½

For many Japanese, minyo dance and music ï¿½involves a nostalgia for real or imagined home towns and family; hence the saying common among practitioners and fans of the genre: "Folk song is the heart's home town" ï¿½"Min'yÅ wa kokoro no furusato"ï¿½ Folk dances are participatory and usually performed during celebrations for a bountiful harvest or catch.ï¿½ Many of the prefectural dances are identified by the movements such as rowing a boat, pulling in the nets from sea, planting rice or harvesting a successful crop.ï¿½
