Larry Ragle, President of California Bonsai Society, Co-Founder of Kofu Bonsai Kai and Founder and President of Aiseki Kai (Suiseki Club), will explain the techniques of recreating the grandeur of nature with a small tree or stone. He will reveal the mystery of how, in a relatively short time, one can create what it took nature centuries to accomplish. He will also explain the appreciation and display of bonsai and Suiseki.
Suiseki is the Japanese art of stone appreciation and can even refer to the stones themselves. Stones have been admired and collected by mankind since time immemorial. And throughout history, cultures around the globe have developed unique names, disciplines and guidelines for their particular art form. The Japanese art is called ``Suiseki``, in China ``Scholar`s Rocks``, in Korea it is ``Suseok`` or ``Gongshi``. Among many other terms used, some might include: viewing stones, artistic stones, object stones and many more. Many of these terms should not and cannot accurately be used interchangeably. Japanese Suiseki is a delicate and traditional art form, represents much more than art - it also represents a process, a feeling, a relationship between the object and the viewer.
Free to members and with paid admission; $8 general admission.
