The World Peace Pageant 2011 will be held one day before the Hiroshima Peace Memorial
Ceremony, with the motto of "No More Hibakusha (atomic bomb survivor)". This event will appeal the abolition of nuclear weapons, by sending this message toward the rest of the world from here in Los Angeles.
This event is cooperated by Hiroshima City, so the event will begin with the Hiroshima City
Mayor's video message.
The title to this year's event is "About the Two Hibaku". One is the Hibaku in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, and another is the Hibaku caused by the recent Fukushima
nuclear power plant disaster earlier this year.
In advanced European countries such as Germany, Italy and Switzerland, the movement of antinuclear power plants is rising. In this new movement, the world is watching how Japan will take direction in their energy policy after experiencing two Hibaku.
In the United States especially in California, the electrical power generation using alternative energy sources such as the wind power and the sunlight energy have drawn significant attention.
With this trend to support the electricity generation without using the nuclear power, it seems that the idea of abolishing the nuclear weapons is a natural result. These two phrases can considered to be synonym.
In this event, we will focus on this subject to be discussed by our panelists.
