A contemporary opera tells the moving story of the Shimono family, Japanese Americans wrongfully incarcerated during World War II. Created by librettist Lionelle Hamanaka, a descendant of camp survivors, and composer Daniel Kessner, this poignant production highlights the strength of familial bonds and the power of collective resistance in the face of injustice. Featuring eleven gifted singers and a twenty-two-member orchestra, this captivating performance, directed by Diana Wyenn and conducted by Steven Hofer, explores the emotional and physical toll of incarceration while honoring the resilience of the Japanese American community.
