The UCLA Terasaki Center for Japanese Studies is a leading institution for the study of Japan in the United States. It was founded in 1991 with the goal of enhancing and developing the infrastructure for Japanese studies at UCLA, training a new generation of scholars working on Japan, and providing greater national visibility for UCLA's Japanese studies programs.
The center supports faculty, students, and other specialists in Japanese studies through a variety of programs and activities, including fellowships, grants, conferences, workshops, and public lectures. It also houses a library with a collection of over 100,000 volumes on Japanese studies.
The Terasaki Center is committed to promoting understanding of Japan in global and historical contexts. It does this by supporting research on a wide range of topics, including Japanese history, politics, economics, culture, and society. The center also sponsors a number of programs that bring together scholars and students from around the world to discuss Japan.
In addition to its academic programs, the Terasaki Center also offers a variety of outreach programs that connect the UCLA community with the broader public. These programs include film screenings, art exhibitions, and cultural events.
