The world around us is a full and varied place with many choices and opportunities, yet one finds that good experiences can be rare. Some things that make life beautiful are the relatively insignificant events that make up the abiding moments of our days. A dog's bark, a friend's laugh, the color of the sky at dawn. We believe that a good bakery can be a part of those infinitely satisfying moments. Our goal at Blackbird is to be a source of comfort and happiness to our community with product and service that is the result of artistry in both heart and mind.

Blackbird Bakery has the great luck of being part of an beautiful place called Bainbridge Island. Our community also stretches across the water to Seattle and over the Agate Pass Bridge into Kitsap County. It not only includes all of our wonderful customers and employees but all of our local growers and purveyors. From strawberries to honey to coffee to flour we source our ingredients and choose our partners knowing that most often local is best.

We are fortunate to be part of a great food serving community with some of the best restaurants, cafes, pubs, and coffee bars around, each run by great people working hard at their craft.

We opened the Blackbird Bakery in September of 1999 starting with the two of us and a dozen other folks. We baked the things we loved and made coffee the way we thought it should be made. As it turned out lots of people agreed with us and we have been blessed over the years with an amazing parade of talented and inspired bakers, cooks, and baristas each bringing something of themselves to the table. We wouldn't have become the bakery we are without all of them and they continue to help us achieve our vision every day.

We sing our baking song with such joy because of the community we are a part of. We are surprised and honored to have been embraced and allowed to become such a significant part of so many lives. We have come to love all the great community events, all the seasons and all the people that make Bainbridge Island such a wonderful place.
